Kids Television with CartonNetwork
This is the American animation production company that follows in the
footsteps of Hanna-Barbera. The CartonNetwork Studios are the producers
of animated series and motion picture films that are broadcast on Cartoon
Network and Kids’ WB related channels.
The CartonNetwork studios became a separate entity after the death of
Hanna in 1994, and it has continued its development on the market with
new productions such as Samurai Jack and The Grim Adventures of Billy
and Mandy.
Time Warner was the one to set the new creative direction for CartonNetwork,
different from the path Hanna-Barbera had followed. New material was
exclusively created for the Cartoon Network channel, the so-called Cartoon
Cartoons, but their broadcasting was made at the cost of eliminating
the classics.
Many of the classics were retired from CartonNetwork, so that new shows
such as Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends or Camp Laszlo animation
series entered the market. The Warner Bros Looney Tunes and Merry Melodies
were moved to Boomerang sister network, as new productions made their
way to Cartoon Network.
