SheboyganPress News for Sheboygan County
The history of SheboyganPress goes back to December 1907, when it
became the main news source of Sheboygan County. The front page news
of the first edition included the dispatch of the Great White Fleet
by President Theodore Roosevelt.
Ever since, the SheboyganPress has covered great news such as the
sinking of the Titanic, the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the assassination
of president J.F. Kennedy and many more.
Historic events have alternated with highly important events for the
local community, such as the tornado that damaged parts of Sheboygan
County in 1998 or the victory of Green Bay Packers in the Super Bowl.
The man that brought the SheboyganPress to what it is today in terms
of journalistic values was Charles Broughton the chief editor who saw
to the newspaper’s growth ever since 1908. Later on he became
owner of the paper together with the Bowler family.
The SheboyganPress remained in the Broughton and Bowler families as
late as 1986 when it was sold to Ingersoll Publications Co. It was during
Ingersoll’s short ownership that the paper also started Sunday
issues. Now the current owner is Gannett Company.
