RichmondTimes Best Newspaper of Record
The RichmondTimes-Dispatch is the best “newspaper of record”
in the entire state of Virginia, though it is issued in its capital
city, Richmond. Published as a daily it is also a default newspaper
for rural areas where other large publications are not available.
The RichmondTimes traces its history 100 years back with the existence
of several Virginia newspapers that led to what we now know as the RichmondTimes Dispatch. In the 1850s, a paper called Richmond Dispatch was founded,
and then another one in 1886 named the RichmondTimes.
In 1896, the RichmondTimes purchased the Manchester Leader, which
led to the publication of another new paper: the Evening Leader. Furthermore,
the year 1899 brought the birth of yet another Richmond paper, The Richmond
News.
All of these above mentioned newspapers merged in 1903, and there resulted
two papers: The RichmondTimes-Dispatch and the Richmond News-Leader.
In the end, they reunited under the Richmond Newspapers, Inc., that
is now called Media General.
