NavajoTimes Newsletter to Newspaper

The NavajoTimes was founded in 1959 by the Navajo Tribal Council under the form of a newsletter. The first issue of the NavajoTimes saw day light only in 1960. And it has developed to this day to also enjoy an online version.

The main purpose for which this local, native community newspaper was created resides in the importance for the Navajo people to have an authentic view of news related to their community. It also provides an insight in the Navajo life and culture.

The best circulation method for the NavajoTimes was the one subscription-based and it circulated within the boundaries of the Navajo Nation as well as all over the US.

The NavajoTimes headquarters are in Window Rock, Arizona, with another office in Shiprock, New Mexico. The newspaper is part of the NavajoTimes Publishing Co. Inc – a non-profit organization operating under the laws of the Navajo Nation.
