DailyOklahoman Oklahoma News
Founded by Sam Small in 1889, the DailyOklahoman is the most important
newspaper in Oklahoma at present. Though characterized as conservative
over the years, the DailyOklahoman has always tried to maintain the
readers view reflected in the newspaper’s content.
Since
1903 the DailyOklahoman is run and controlled by the Gaylord family,
a successful ownership that created a many-billion dollar fortune and
a very good reputation in American Journalism. In 1939, the DailyOklahoman
got the Pulitzer Prize for editorial art, due to Ch. Werner.
Over time, the DailyOklahoman has been criticized for biased editorials.
The support it offered to large Oklahoma business and the insistence
on a pro-Christian agenda were mostly criticized. However the Daily
Oklahoma not only made changes in some of the spotted weak points, but
it also improved.
One of the best such changes in the news reporting of the DailyOklahoman
was the introduction of opposed points of view to those presented in
editorials. This move brought the level of impartiality that critics
had considered the DailyOklahoman lacked.
