BinghamtonPress Widely Read News
Founded in 1904 by Willis Sharpe Kilmer the BinghamtonPress meant
flamboyant journalism in its early days. Kilmer enjoyed a very colorful
image of the world, and he wanted to render it into his newspaper for
the sheer pleasure of sharing the life puzzle with the others.
Among the first journalists that wrote for the BinghamtonPress were
artists that presented world’s events in vivid news sketches.
Kilmer preferred this kind of artistic journalism to any distant, objective
news writing.
Between 1960 and 1985 there were several owners and several names under
which the BinghamtonPress was known. For instance in 1960, Gannet changed
the name from BinghamtonPress to The Evening Press. Later on the Sun
Bulletin appeared as a morning weekly Republican.
It was in 1985 that the newspapers formed a single BinghamtonPress
morning paper which increased its audience popularity. Thus it presently
enjoys a circulation of 54,802 copies for the morning issue, and 68,564
copies for the Sunday issue.
